As a rule of thumb, most handyman jobs on our list cost between $125 and $350, quoted as one flat price you approve before any work starts. No hourly surprises. Larger open-ended projects are billed at our hourly rate, $85–$125 an hour. Each range below is the flat price band for that job on our list.

How a flat price is built

Four things decide where in a range your job lands, and none of them is a surprise on the invoice.

One number for the visit

We price what is in front of us: the wall behind the anchor, how high it is, and how long the list runs. That is one flat number for the whole visit, however many small things are on it, and you approve it before anything starts.

Access and material move it more than size

On a TV mount the wall matters more than the screen does. Studs behind clean drywall is the quick case. Brick, tile over backer board, or plaster on lath means masonry bits, a vacuum running for the dust and a second pair of hands. On a ceiling fan, the box already up there decides most of it.

Open-ended work is hourly

Everything in the list below is flat-priced per job. The $85–$125 hourly rate applies only to open-ended work that nobody can size up front, and you hear that it applies before we start rather than when the invoice lands.

The drive is already in the number

No trip fee, and no travel surcharge anywhere in the service area. Crossing this city is most of what a small job costs, which is why three fixes booked as one visit come to less than three separate visits.

These are typical LA ranges. Your exact flat price is confirmed before work starts.

What the number covers

Labor and the visit are inside the flat price on every job here. Beyond that it genuinely differs, so each service page spells it out under “What’s included” rather than leaving you to assume. Interior painting lists the prep, the masking, the priming and two coats. A faucet swap lists pulling the old unit, fitting the new one, the supply lines and a leak test. Read the list on the page for your job, not a general promise on this one.

Some of what we are asked for is not ours to take. Fixture swaps, carpentry, drywall, mounting and maintenance are. A new circuit, a repipe, gas work or anything holding the house up goes to a specialist, and you hear that on the phone rather than after somebody has opened a wall. Where we know a good one you get the name.

Every range on this page comes from the same price list the 42 service pages and their cost guides read from, last reviewed . Tap any price above for the full guide on that job: what a quote at the bottom of the range actually buys, what pushes one to the top, and how to land nearer the low end.
